Dr Lucy Arkinstall

Lucy completed her Masters in Chemistry at Durham University and obtained her PhD in Chemistry in 2020 under the supervision of Professor Rachel O’Reilly at the University of Birmingham. Her work focused on utilising metathesis to expand the reaction scope of DNA nanotechnology. She remained at the University of Birmingham for 3 years, as a Research fellow, working across the School of Chemical Engineering and Healthcare Technologies Institute under the supervision of Professor Anthony Metcalfe and Dr Sophie Cox. Her research was part of a multidisciplinary project into the design of novel medical adhesives.
Lucy then spent 2 years out in Industry working for a sustainable packaging company where she acted as interim manager of the technical department. In 2026, Lucy returned to the university joining the groups of Professor Andrew Dove and Professor Rachel O’Reilly to support their research activities.
