Andrew Weems undertook his PhD at Texas A&M University in the Biomedical Engineering Department, focused primarily with shape memory polyurethanes (SMPs) degradation. This work involved determining the pathway to material break down for vascular occlusion medical devices. Funded through a Whittaker scholarship, Andrew joined the Dove group in 2017 to synthesize biodegradable SMP formulations for biomedical applications.
